Why I Don’t Idolize Just One Person ⚡
I think as men, we’re constantly being told who our role models should be. But I’ve always found idolizing one person stupid—no one is perfect, and trying to live as a carbon copy of someone else feels like a recipe for disappointment.
Instead, I believe in taking different lessons from different people—building your own “role model mix.” Here are a few of mine and why they’ve made an impact:
1. David Goggins – The Relentless Machine 🏃♂️🔥
This list wouldn’t exist without him. Goggins is like a race car limping across the finish line with a blown-out tire—but still winning. His ability to push through the flames and embrace suffering shows us that we’re capable of so much more than we think.
2. Chris Williamson – The Curious Mind 🎙️📚
I’ve been following Modern Wisdom since it had 50k subscribers, and it honestly came into my life at the right time. What I admire about Chris is his relentless curiosity and commitment to learning and growing.
3. Jordan Belfort – The Controversial One 💼🗣️
Yeah, I know this one’s spicy. While I don’t admire everything about Jordan, as someone who struggles with speech sometimes, I respect his ability to articulate and persuade. Communication is power—and he nails that.
4. My Dad – The Quiet Force 👨👦
This one’s personal. I’m lucky to say my dad is one of my biggest inspirations. Not for the generic “dad stuff,” but because he’s always pushed me to:
✅ Question everything
✅ Refuse to be a sheep
✅ Get out there and do something—learn, fail, try again.
He’s been through his own battles and never dumped that burden on anyone else. That strength speaks volumes.
Why You Need Multiple Role Models 🌍
One person can’t teach you everything. Pick different people for different parts of your life—fitness, mindset, communication, resilience—and build your own playbook.
I’ll leave you with a quote my dad always said to me:
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. - Lao Tzu”
Take the step.
